Modern Spanish Kitchen: Inspiration
When I was referred to this new client after helping some friends with their kitchen. After finishing their kitchen their parents wanted to renovate their kitchen. From A predominately 90’s Spanish traditional kitchen they wanted to shift to a modern sleek space that marry’s the Spanish Saltillo tile that runs the whole home. Since it is a super thick that is hare to counter act with other tile. I couldn’t wait to change this space into my clients dream.
From the beginning the kitchen is in a very angled kitchen. unless we were to change the whole kitchen location and remove walls we were going to have to keep the kitchen in the same layout with some changes. They have had limited counter space in their work triangle & just wanted working for them. How do you make more space with the same cabinet layout…. It can be difficult but if you think outside the box you can gain some much deserved counter top space! Lets take a look!
This kitchen was actually great size with tall ceilings and great natural lighting. Unfortunately it still felt dark. and not the style they wanted. I was giving some inspiration that was such a beautiful space.
Between all the inspo my client has kept coming to this one. She loved everything about this kitchen and wanted to have it be pretty similar.
The original thoughts and conversation was to merry a little modern and traditional & spanish together. This is the vibe seen below i presented.
She loved it but decided to go completely modern! Switching gears the design we wanted a solid wood door not a laminate & a whiter wood not yellow. We ended up going to for a Maple solid slab hard wood door & drawer fronts that are locally made in Prescott, Arizona! These solid maple doors are GORGEOUS!!
From inspiration to the design we needed to also gain counter tops space…. The only way I knew how, was getting rid of the electric cook top and replacing it was an invisable induction cooktop.. NOW THIS IS SOOOOOO COOL. From Designer to consumer this can literally change your life. It is mounted underneath your counter top and creates heat directly to pan with magnetic energy. This means you get rid of the burners and the heat that create space to work on and cook. I will share more of this in the coming post so subscribe below to stay informed!.
The only down side to using this invisable cook top is you have to use granite or porcelain. My client currently had granite but because it is a natural stone & the color options aren’t in the relm of what they want. Porcelain is a great option but can have it’s corks like other types of material. I love it because it can come in all sorts of colors and this is a benefit for design. It is very durable but still could chip or break like anything. It is anti- microbial and doesn’t etch or wont discolor which is great!
Between the inspiration and my client we went with a little bolder counter top option for the surround. Using my Favorite vendor Moderno Works - This Color is Bianco Statuario.
From there we pick thicker 12 MM Porcelain in a black and grey color and picked a Black that is gorgeous next to it! (shown below) Lamp Shade Black is paint we picked.
